PILOT CLUB EVENTS FOR JUNE 2017

Pub Nights:

  • The Chequers, Redbourn
  • The Ski Centre, Hemel Hempstead with option of meal beforehand
  • The Skew Bridge, Southdown, Harpenden, with option of meal beforehand.
  • The Prae Wood Arms, Redbourn Rd, St Albans.
  • The Garibaldi, St Albans

Meals Out:

First Tuesday lunch at pub on Hatfield Rd

Quizzes:

Regular Monday night quiz at pub on Hatfield Rd (not bank holidays)

Days Out:

  • Spa Valley Railway and Groombridge Place Gardens, by coach
  • Heavy Horse Show at Capel Manor, Enfield
  • Garden Party at Ashridge House, with stalls and cream teas
  • Open Garden Squares in London by train
  • Home and Garden Show at Capel Manor, Enfield

Evenings Out:

Films

  • “Moonlight” at Arena, St Albans
  • “Viceroy’s House” at Arena, St Albans (we’re going to a matinee as well)
  • “Lion” at Arena, St Albans

Play

Shaw’s “Major Barbara” in the playwright’s garden at Shaw’s Corner, Ayot St Lawrence. Picnic in the garden before the play

Music

“A Century of Jazz” at The Maltings, St Albans

CLUBS WITHIN PILOT CLUB

Bridge Club meets weekly. Snooker Club meets weekly. Supper Club meets about once a month

COMING UP IN JULY

  • Guided walk of Isle of Dogs, travel by train from St Albans
  • River Trent Cruise, with coach to Nottingham
  • Pilot Club Summer Event – quiz with professional Quiz Master

  • The Angel Vaults, Hitchin, with option of meal beforehand
  • Prae Wood Arms, Redbourn Road, St Albans

MEALS OUT

  • First Tuesday lunch at the popular pub on the St Albans road

DAYS OUT

  • Guided walk in historic Hertford, “Radicals, Rebels and Dissenters”
  • Trip to village of Much Hadham, to see forge and wall-paintings, or Henry Moore sculptures etc.

MUSIC, FILM, THEATRE, ART

  • Classical Concert at Uni of Herts on theme of War and Peace: Haydn, Panufnik and Shostakovich’s 7th
  • Film “Phoenix”, Film Society presentation, at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City
  • Play “Good Things” by Liz Lochhead, at Barn Theatre, Welwyn Garden City
  • Film “Manchester by the Sea” at the Arena, St Albans
  • Slide lecture on 20th century artist Francis Bacon, at Radlett Centre
  • Musical “Acorn Antiques” at Radlett Centre

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

This is accompanied by a quiz and a fish, chicken or pasty & chips supper

At Charles Morris Hall, Tyttenhanger

COMING UP IN JUNE AND JULY

June – Trip to Spa Valley Steam Railway, Groombridge Place Gardens, and the Enchanted Forest.

July – River Trent cruise with lunch (coach to Nottingham)
